About Elections Ontario
Elections Ontario is a non-partisan Agency of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Working under the direction of the Chief Electoral Officer, who is an Officer of the Legislative Assembly, Elections Ontario ensures that Ontario is ready for an election at any time.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer is governed by the Election Act, Election Finances Act, Representation Act, and other legislation such as French Language Services Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
Elections Ontario is responsible for conducting general elections, by-elections, and referenda in the province of Ontario. In addition, Elections Ontario is responsible for a number of services which include:
- providing Ontarians with information on the electoral process;
- overseeing the financial statements of anyone governed by the Election Finances Act; and
- recommending reforms of the electoral process.
